The jingle all the way Christmas tag. It really is the most wonderful time of the year and I’m happy it is finally here. And what better way to get to know a blogger over this season, than with a questionnaire. I got tagged by the wonderful Katrina from Mum’s the nerd to take part in the Christmas tag. Let me know if you would like to take part as well and I will tag you.
Let’s let’s get to the questionnaire (:
Where will you be celebrating Christmas this year?
We will be spending it at home this year and I’m really looking forward to it. But were likely to be making our way down to Stoke on the boxing day to spend a few days with my husband’s family.
Who are you celebrating with?
It’s our first Christmas as a family of four, five including our dog. I cannot wait to spend it together this year.
Do you own any ugly Christmas jumpers?
None actually, I have to stock up on them again.
How do you spend Christmas Eve?
We do lots of christmas baking, play board games and watch Christmas movies. In Germany we traditionally open presents after church. We always video call my family in Germany and let the kids open all the presents from my family then.
When do you put up your decorations?
We always put them in time for the first advent, which tends to fall in the last November week. We’re buying a real Christmas tree this year, so this won’t be put up until a week before Christmas.
Do you have a decorating them?
I love the classic Christmas colours of red, white and green. It’s really nice and warm and never goes out of fashion.
Do you have a tree topper?
We usually have a star on the top of the tree, although last years tree was too tall for one!
What’s been your least favourite gift that you’ve received?
It was actually a secret Santa gift, someone gave me a self stirring mug. I never drink coffee or tea with milk, so it ended up being very pointless.
What would you like to find in your stocking this year?
We actually just do the stockings for the kids and our dog.
When did you start buying gifts this year?
July! I started picking up things in the Amazon and H&M sales really early. I love buying things at a bargain price.
Have you ever recycled a gift?
Yes, I’ve recycled alcoholic gifts over the years. I’m not big drinker and I much rather someone who likes it has the present
What’s your favourite Christmas food?
Stolen, I love Stollen and get some send from Germany every year.
What do you leave out for Santa?
A glass of milk, freshly baked cookies and carrots for reindeers of course.
Have you ever been carolling?
Not on Christmas, but on the 6th December for St. Nicklaus Day. That’s when kids go carolling in Germany for sweets.
What do you usually have for Christmas dinner?
We always have a full on Turkey roast dinner with all the trimmings and pigs in blankets of course.
When do you open gifts?
All the presents from my family in Germany will be opened on Christmas Eve. Everything else gets opened as soon as the kids are up, which is usually around 6 in the morning on Christmas day.
How do you spend Boxing day?
This year we will be up early and travelling down to see my husband side of the family. There will be even more presents for the kids to open and I’ll be taking down some home-baked Christmas goodies.
Have you ever kissed anyone under the mistletoe?
Sadly never, it’s one of those Hallmark Christmas movie moments that I’m still waiting on.
What’s your favourite character from a Christmas-themed movie, book or tv special?
Buddy the Elf, he’s my Christmas spirit twin. I love how excited he gets about everything Christmas related.
If you were Santa Claus, what treats would you want to be left out for you on Christmas eve?
Cheese and toffifee.
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
I gotta go with Elf again and the Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Yes, we used to have lots in Germany when I was younger and two years ago in Edinburgh.
Where do you usually spend your holidays?
It really depends on where we are posted that year. Sometimes at home, other times in Stoke with my husband’s family. We are really overdue a Christmas in Germany though.
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
There are so many to choose from, it’s a hard one. I’d have to go with Jingle Bell Rock. But I also love Carrie Underwoods version of How Great Thou Art, bri is tears to my eyes everytime.
Do you open any presents on Christmas eve?
Yes, that’s when you open presents in Germany. All presents from my family in Germany get opened on Christmas eve.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers? No peaking!
Rudolph, Dancer, Vixen, Comet, Prancer, Cupid, Dasher and Blitzen. I’m sure I forgot one?
Which holiday traditions are you look forward to this year?
All of them, there’s not a single one I don’t like. I’ll be putting up a blog post with all of our traditions later this week.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
In the past we’ve always bought a fake one but we are having a real one again this year. The smells just makes the house even more christmassy.
What is your favourite holiday treat/sweet/food?
It has got to be Stollen, either homemade or one from a German bakery. I don’t care much for the store bought ones.
Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
Definitely giving gifts, for me it’s all about the children and seeing their faces light up.
What is the best Christmas present you have ever recieved?
Is it bad that I can’t even remember, it’s so long ago and we had so many great presents as children.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
Any of the American small towns that do Christmas, as it’s shown in the hallmark movies.
Are you a pro wrapper or do you fail miserably?
A bit of both. I tend to slack a little a little after wrapping nearly all of the presents super nicely.
Most memorable Christmas moment?
Miley’s first Christmas and this year it will be Carter’s first, I can’t wait.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
What do you mean? Santa is real, I still believe in the magic of Christmas.
What makes the holidays special for you?
Family and just spending time with your loved ones. And of course all of the lights, traditions and decorations.
